2012 Summer Internship Program
The Korean-American Citizens League of
New England (KACL) invites college
and graduate students to apply to its 2012 Summer Internship Program.
Interns
will be placed in the offices of U. S. Senators, Congressmen, or the
State
Government, or other places, and they will receive a stipend of total
$2000.
KACL is a non-partisan, non-profit
organization founded in 1990 to provide
a coherent political voice within the community. Through the Summer
Internship
Program, KACL hopes to encourage the political involvement of young
Korean
Americans, foster their interest in public policy-related careers, and
develop their leadership skills.
Eligibility requirements:
- Applicant must be a current college/graduate school student, or a
graduating senior in high school in
good
standing.
- Applicant must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident of Korean
American
origin.
- Applicant must be a New England resident or attend a college in
New
England.
- Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a
4.0
scale), along with evidence of leadership abilities and excellent oral
and written communication skills.

- A brief essay (less than 500 words, eg why you want to
participate in the
internship program, how you can benefit from it, and the areas of
interest).
- School transcript of the past year.

How
you get selected for the internship:
- Once KACL receive the above information, KACL internship
selection committee will verify your qualification criteria. Your
application could be rejected at this point. Acceptance by
KACL
internship selection committee does not guarantee your eventual
selection.
- Once your qualification is verified, KACL internship selection
committee will work with you to get you a place in a particular
political office. You will be responsible for applying for the
internship positions in the following offices yourself, however. You
will be also responsible for following through with the application
process until you get a confirmation from the office.

- Mass Governor's internship
- Mass Attorney General Internship Opportunities
- Boston City Government offices
- Or any other public office
- Until
you get selected by a particular political office, your selection is
not guaranteed.
Your obligation to KACL once you get
selected as a 2012 political intern:
- You have to be personally present in the 2012 KACL fund-raising
event. It is scheduled to occur on April 24th, 2012 in Lexington
Elks Club in Lexington approximately between 6:30pm to 10:00pm.
- You will write 2 or 3 page essay about your internship experience
after your internship, which will be published in the following year's
KACL's annual magazine.
- You will be required to give 5 to 10 minutes speech on your
experience during the following year's KACL's annual fund-raising
event.
How you will receive $2000 scholarship:
- The amount of $1000, which is half of the total $2000, will be
awarded during the 2012 KACL fund-raising event on April 24th, 2012.
- The remaining $1000 will be awarded when we receive your essay
after your internship.
