HowTo create a google account and sign up for Sang Shins classes.

First go to the google main page. Then click on 'Sign in'. Even though you don't have and account yet, this is how you start.

Next click on 'Create an account now' to begin creating your google account.

Next enter your email address, your password, and also don't forget to enter the 'Word Verification.' Once you have entered all of this, click on 'Create my account.'

After you click on 'I accept Create my account,' you will get the account verification screen. An email will be sent to you. Your account is not active until you get an email and respond to it. It usually only takes a couple of minutes for your email to arrive.

Here is my email client (Thunderbird). My email has arrived. Open the email and click on the link to verify your new google account and start it.

After you click on your email link, you will see this screen. Your google account is now active.

Next on the google home page click on 'Sign in' to sign in to your new account.

Enter your sign in id, which is usually your email address, and your password, and then click on 'Sign In'.

If you sign in correctly, you will return to the main google page. But you will sign your sign in ID on the top right hand side. If you don't see that, then you did not sign in correct, so try again until you do.

Next you need to go to the google home page for the java class. To do this right click on thes link below and select 'Open in new Window' so that you can open the link in a new browser window and still have this howto screen open:

Make sure you do a right click and 'Open in New Window' like the screenshot below! You should have two browser windows open now. One with this FAQ and the other with the class home page.

Now you should have two browser windows open, one with the home page for the java class. Next you need to join the class using the new window you just opened. Just click on 'Join this group.' You will then be part of the java class.

After you click on 'Join this group' you will go to your class profile. Here you can set how you want to receive your email. If you don't want to receive email, you can just read the class postings on the class website. So select how you want to receive email (or not) and then click 'Join this group' one more time to actually be a part of the group.

Next you will be on the java class home page. Here you can read other students posts and also create new posts yourself. To read others emails, just click on the topic. Or you can click on 'New Post' to create a post yourself. Also notice that your google ID should be on the top right of the screen.

I got this screen because I clicked on 'New Post.' It is very simple to create a new post. Just type in your questions and then click on 'Post message.'

After you post your message, you should see this screen. Now you will want to go back to the class home page. Just click on 'Home.'

Now you are back on the class home page. When you are done you can click on 'Sign out' or just close your browser.
